During his time as head winemaker at Kendall-Jackson, he crafted the iconic Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay, a wine that became a household name and symbol of California’s rise on the global stage.
In 1991, Jed founded Steele Wines, followed by offshoots Shooting Star, Stymie, and Writer’s Block, cementing his influence in Lake County’s winemaking scene. He was not only a master of the vineyard but also a storyteller, baseball enthusiast, and mentor to many in the wine community, known for his warmth, humor, and candor.
